Ecological House in the Galilee
An existing house in the Galilee underwent an extensive renovation, including the addition of a new upper floor. The combination of old and new created a home that is functional and contemporary, while embracing principles of ecological design and sustainability.
Hemp blocks – an innovative building material made from hemp fibers, were used in the construction of the new upper floor, providing a natural and healthy building solution with a reduced environmental footprint.
High-quality windows with excellent thermal insulation were selected to minimize energy loss and maintain a balanced indoor temperature. This reduces the need for artificial heating and cooling, lowers energy consumption, and contributes to the home’s ecological character.
Breathable plaster was used on both the interior and exterior walls. Allowing air and moisture to pass naturally, it helps prevent the accumulation of mold and contributes to a naturally balanced indoor climate.
The finishing materials were also selected with an emphasis on natural and recycled materials: natural stone and wood flooring indoors and outdoors, lighting fixtures made from natural materials, and furniture partly designed using recycled materials. Together, these choices create a sustainable, healthy and welcoming home that connects natural materials, contemporary design, and the surrounding Galilee landscape.
